About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Android Developer to join our expanding mobile engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Android applications that deliver seamless and engaging user experiences. Working closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, designers, QA specialists, and fellow developers—you will contribute to scalable mobile solutions that meet client needs and adhere to best practices. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on impactful digital products using modern technologies within an Agile environment. The role involves full lifecycle development, from initial design and implementation to testing, deployment, and ongoing enhancement of Android applications.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong background in native Android application development, with proven experience in Kotlin and/or Java. A passion for creating high-quality, user-centric mobile experiences is essential, along with the ability to work effectively within Agile or Scrum teams. Familiarity with RESTful API integration, third-party libraries, and Android SDKs is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills, along with experience in automated testing and app deployment through the Google Play Store. Knowledge of version control systems such as Git and a keen interest in emerging Android technologies are highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be proactive, innovative, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including designing and developing native Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java, ensuring responsive and user-friendly interfaces in collaboration with UI/UX teams. You will integrate and optimize RESTful APIs and third-party services, write clean, scalable, and maintainable code, and participate in peer reviews to uphold code quality standards. Troubleshooting and resolving application issues, defects, and performance bottlenecks will be a key part of your role. You will implement and support unit testing and automated testing strategies to ensure application reliability. Maintaining and enhancing existing Android applications, ensuring compatibility across various devices and OS versions, and managing application releases on the Google Play Store will also fall under your responsibilities. Additionally, you will stay informed about the latest Android SDKs, tools, and frameworks to innovate and improve application performance and features.

Benefits

CGI offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, well-being, and professional development. Employees enjoy a competitive salary, an excellent pension scheme, private healthcare coverage, and a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching), which aligns your success with that of the company, making you a CGI Partner rather than just an employee. The company promotes a flexible work environment, including a hybrid working model with one day per week on-site in Glasgow for local employees, and regular opportunities for remote collaboration. CGI is committed to diversity and inclusion, actively supporting initiatives such as the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant, and providing a supportive environment for career growth. Employees benefit from ongoing training, mentorship, and opportunities to work on cutting-edge projects that foster innovation and skill development.
