FyneHand is mandated to hire for the role of Assistant General Manager (AGM) – Materials Engineering. The role will be based in Faridabad.

Our client is India's largest integrated manufacturer and assembler of automotive fluid transmission products, supplying to top-tier domestic and global OEMs. With a robust footprint across multiple manufacturing facilities and strategic joint ventures, they provide mission-critical assemblies - including fuel, brake, clutch, HVAC, coolant, and Electric Vehicle (EV) thermal management systems - using diverse material technologies encompassing rubber, specialized polymers, and high-pressure metal manipulation.

Role overview:

Our client is seeking a visionary, technical, and strategic leader to step into the role of Assistant General Manager (AGM) – Materials Engineering. Operating out of their Corporate Technical / R&D center, the successful candidate will steer the materials engineering division. The role demands deep technical mastery over New Material Development (NPD), advanced Material Characterization, and end-to-end Failure Analysis (Root Cause Analysis) for polymers, elastomers, and advanced metallurgy to pave the way for next-generation automotive, hybrid, and Electric Vehicle (EV) fluid architectures.

Key responsibilities:

1. New Material Development & NPD Support

  • Lead advanced research, screening, and selection of engineered plastics, performance elastomers (EPDM, Fluoroelastomers, Silicone), and alloys tailored for extreme fluid pressures, thermal thresholds, and chemical exposure resistance
  • Drive the institutional materials roadmap for light-weighting, cost-efficiency, and sustainability; identify and qualify green or bio-based alternate compounds satisfying global compliance standards (IMDS, RoHS, REACH)
  • Collaborate actively with product design and computational simulation (CAE/CFD) teams to guarantee precise material profiling early in the RFQ-to-SOP timeline, dramatically cutting down design validation (DV) cycle times
  • Standardize internal compounding specifications, standard operating procedures (SOP), and systematically review Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all incoming raw materials

2. Advanced Material Characterization

  • Oversee corporate R&D laboratory operations, planning and executing rigorous microstructural, thermal, chemical, and physical evaluations
  • Direct testing and analytical interpretations utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Universal Testing Machines (UTM)
  • Establish structured thermal mapping matrices and thoroughly evaluate elastomer curing kinetics, degradation curves, and localized bonding boundaries (e.g., polymer-to-metal vulcanization or multi-layer extruded hose interfaces)

3. Failure Analysis & Continuous Quality Improvement

  • Serve as the supreme technical authority for complex Root Cause Analysis (RCA) concerning plant scrap rejections, architectural/validation breakdown failures, and field warranty complaints
  • Formulate and implement robust Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) using multi-disciplinary frameworks like 8D, Shainin Red-X, 5-Why analysis, and product/process FMEAs
  • Conduct macroscopic and microscopic fractography evaluations to diagnose failure mechanisms such as stress-corrosion cracking, pressure-induced bursts, environmental degradation, or processing faults

4. Functional Leadership & Cost Governance

  • Lead, mentor, and continuously upgrade technical competency levels across the materials testing laboratory and junior engineering personnel
  • Manage technical relationships and contracts with specialized external labs for niche procedures (e.g., XRD residual stress profiling, CT scanning, or specialized spectroscopy).
  • Spearhead high-impact Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) tasks to uncover component localization and compounding optimization cost savings without compromising baseline performance

Required candidate profile:

  • Education: B.E. / B.Tech or M.E. / M.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering, Polymer & Plastics Technology, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering from an institution of high repute
  • Industry Experience: 14 to 18 years of progressive experience in an automotive Tier-1 or OEM technical center, with at least 8+ years spent holding specialized accountability in material qualification, development, and advanced characterization
  • Technical Domain Mastery: Profound knowledge of multi-layer fluid line extrusion, hose architectures, custom polymer compounding (Nylon variants, PBT, PC), performance rubbers, and joining techniques (braiding, crimping, or friction welding)
  • Analytical Tools: Practical expertise reading/interpreting outputs from SEM/EDS microanalysis, Keyence 3D microscopy systems, thermal analysis software, and mapping physical thresholds against FEA structural stress expectations
  • Certifications (Highly Regarded): Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification, certified LPPD (Lean Product & Process Development) practitioner, or professional failure engineering training

Location: Faridabad
