Nature Morte, founded in 1982 in New York and later revived in New Delhi in 1997, is a pioneering commercial gallery and curatorial experiment. Renowned for championing conceptual, lens-based, and installation art, the gallery represents some of the most prominent contemporary Indian artists with growing international visibility. With two exhibition spaces in New Delhi and a new permanent gallery in Mumbai's Colaba neighbourhood, Nature Morte is a leader in its field, fostering emerging talents and showcasing international artists. Over the years, the gallery has expanded its influence with branches in locations such as Berlin, Calcutta, and Gurgaon, and it continues to play a vital role in the global art scene. Nature Morte is co-directed by Aparajita Jain and Peter Nagy, with its headquarters now extending to multiple cities.

Role Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, ensuring stability, regulatory compliance, risk management, and supporting business growth through effective planning and analysis. The CFO oversees all, accounting, taxation, bookkeeping, budgeting, and reporting functions.

 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Accounting Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement the organization’s accounting strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term Accounting planning processes.
  • Provide accounting insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Oversee accounting operations, reporting, and statutory compliance.
  • Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Maintain robust internal controls and governance practices.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and treasury functions.
  • Ensure the reports to be shared regularly

 2. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead internal and external audits.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead Profit and Loss Accounts

 3. Business Partnering

  • Partner with department heads to drive profitability and cost optimization.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, business expansion plans, and capital expenditures.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, fundraising, and investor relations activities where applicable.

 4. Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounts team.
  • Establish performance goals and drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure effective succession planning within the function.
  • Ensure Team Building Activities to foster positive culture

 Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) mandatory; MBA Finance preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of, accounting standards and taxation etc
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, audits, compliance, and stakeholder management.
