This role partners with infrastructure, security, application, and clinical technology teams to deliver reliable, secure, and cost-effective cloud capabilities that meet healthcare regulatory requirements and internal standards.

The Cloud Engineer I supports the design, deployment, and day-to-day operations of cloud services across the health system, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role partners with infrastructure, security, application, and clinical technology teams to deliver reliable, secure, and cost-effective cloud capabilities that meet healthcare regulatory requirements and internal standards.
General Duties
- Design and manage cloud infrastructure and services in AWS, Azure, and GCP (compute, storage, networking, IAM, logging/monitoring).
- Support implementation and operations of hybrid connectivity (VPN, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute/Interconnect concepts), DNS, routing, and firewall policies in cloud environments.
- Assist with cloud identity and access management (least privilege, role-based access, MFA, key/secret rotation) in partnership with Information Security.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments using different tools
- Support cloud platform reliability through monitoring, alerting, patching, backups, and disaster recovery testing aligned to RTO/RPO targets.
- Participate in vulnerability remediation and security hardening activities (baseline configurations, encryption in transit/at rest, logging standards).
- Experience with container and platform services (e.g., Kubernetes/EKS/AKS/GKE concepts, PaaS services, serverless basics).
- Troubleshoot incidents and performance issues; perform root cause analysis and contribute to problem management and post-incident reviews.
- Assist with cloud cost management.
- Maintain accurate documentation, diagrams, runbooks and configuration records.
- Collaborate with application teams on cloud onboarding, migration activities, and operational readiness.
- Support compliance and audit activities relevant to healthcare (HIPAA/HITECH, SOC, PCI where applicable) by providing evidence and maintaining controls.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in cloud administration/engineering or advanced systems engineering roles
- Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware, Citrix, or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with storage and backup technologies supporting mission-critical workloads
- Strong experience administering and engineering Windows Server and/or Linux/Unix operating systems
- Experience designing infrastructure in hybrid cloud environments
- Proven ability to engineer systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery
- Healthcare IT experience preferred, particularly in hospital or health system environments operating 24x7
- Experience supporting environments with HIPAA and regulatory compliance requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Relevant technical certifications preferred (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google or other cloud technologies)
- Strong systems mindset with ability to design and optimize infrastructure solutions
- Advanced troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
- Ability to translate operational challenges into engineered solutions
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure architecture and dependencies
- Effective communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives with minimal supervision
- Strong documentation and technical writing skills
