Designation – Compliance Manager (HigherEducation India)

Job Overview - This role sits within upGrad's internal compliance function, responsible for tracking regulatory developments, monitoring adherence to applicable laws, and proactively flagging risk areas before they surface as issues. A core part of the mandate is staying closely attuned to the regulatory framework governing online education in India, and ensuring upGrad's internal processes remain aligned with applicable requirements at all times. The role also extends to supporting compliance monitoring across other functions as the scope of the compliance charter grows.


Key Responsibilities -

  • Continuously track developments in higher education law and regulations, and assess their implications for upGrad.
  • Independently initiate and conduct periodic internal audits across program offerings, identifying and flagging any gaps or risk signals for timely resolution.
  • Build and maintain internal trackers, dashboards, and a documentation repository to monitor the ongoing compliance posture of programs.
  • Prepare periodic compliance MIS / risk assessment reports for leadership review.
  • Translate regulatory updates into clear, actionable internal advisories / briefs for relevant teams.
  • Design and maintain SOPs and compliance calendars for recurring internal review cycles.
  • Maintain an internal knowledge base of applicable regulatory requirements and how they map to upGrad's program offerings.
  • Train and sensitize internal stakeholders on regulatory awareness and compliance protocols.


Ideal Candidate Profile -

  • LL.B from a reputed institution.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a compliance, risk or regulatory affairs role. Experience in education, edtech, or consumer facing sector preferred.
  • Working knowledge of India’s higher education regulatory landscape with the ability to interpret and translate regulations into internal processes and communication guidelines.
  • Excellent audit, documentation and process management skills; capable of owning trackers and internal review calendars independently.
  • Strong cross-functional stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail and sound, independent judgment.
  • Collaborative team player who is comfortable engaging with finance, business, and leadership stakeholders.
