About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a highly autonomous Data Engineer to own and expand a growing enterprise data platform supporting a national transportation and intermodal services organization.
The company has made significant investments in modernizing its data environment and is approximately 70–80% through the implementation of a Microsoft-based enterprise data lake and reporting platform. This individual will inherit a strong foundation and play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and expanding the platform while supporting operational reporting, financial analytics, business intelligence, and future AI initiatives.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys ownership, accountability, and direct visibility into how data impacts business decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Build, maintain, and optimize enterprise data pipelines and integrations
- Support and expand Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and Databricks environments
- Develop and maintain Power BI reporting and dashboard solutions
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across multiple business systems
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures, reporting discrepancies, and data integrity issues
- Integrate data from ERP, operational, maintenance, and financial systems
- Partner with finance and business leadership to deliver actionable reporting and analytics solutions
- Support forecasting, business intelligence, and operational reporting initiatives
- Monitor and improve platform performance, scalability, and reliability
- Contribute to future predictive analytics and AI-related initiatives as the platform continues to evolve
What We’re Looking For
- 3–6+ years of Data Engineering experience
- Strong SQL expertise required
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, and Power BI
- Experience building and supporting production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines
- Strong understanding of reporting, analytics, and data quality best practices
- Financial reporting exposure and comfort supporting finance and executive stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal oversight
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Experience supporting operational, financial, or business intelligence reporting environments
- Transportation, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial services experience is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field
