About the Job

The Fire & Life Safety Inspector will play a pivotal role in ensuring the physical integrity, regulatory compliance and operational readiness of fire and life safety systems across high-hazard industrial, commercial and infrastructure assets. Moving beyond traditional prescriptive check-lists, this mid-to-senior role demands a sharp technical mind capable of conducting thorough onsite audits, system testing and risk evaluations. You will bridge the gap between complex fire safety design and real-world compliance, ensuring that assets are not only safe but aligned with Burkan Engineering's innovative, digital-first approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed fire & life safety inspections and risk audits across diverse structures, manufacturing units, and high-rise facilities to evaluate compliance with national and international codes.
• Witness and verify functional testing for complex fire protection systems, including active suppression, passive fire ,fire door ,smoke management, gas detection and advanced alarm network integrations.
• Assess existing installations against the National Building Construction Standard (NBCS), NFPA standards, and local statutory requirements, identifying gaps and providing actionable remediation paths.
• Utilize and integrate modern digital inspection tools, reporting platforms, and AI-driven risk assessment workflows to expedite inspection turnarounds.
• Author high-quality, precise inspection reports, notice of violations, compliance matrices, and field variation logs.
• Partner closely with stakeholders, site safety managers, construction teams, commissioning engineers, and internal design teams to resolve field compliance issues smoothly.
• Assist in reviewing technical proposals, scoping site inspection efforts, and participating in technical walkthroughs or customer safety workshops.

Client Engagement & Delivery Handoff

• Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve any issues during the delivery phase and post-delivery support, ensuring client satisfaction and project success.
• Act as Burkan Engineering’s primary technical and professional face on-site during inspection cycles, communicating findings clearly and objectively.
• Keep clients and facility heads updated on inspection milestones, immediate safety hazards, and progress timelines via structured debriefs.
• Review inspection findings with clients, helping them understand necessary corrective actions and incorporating constructive feedback into final deliverables without compromising safety.
• Drive smooth handoffs of compliance documentation, ensuring field data seamlessly feeds into Burkan’s Fast-To-Market (F2M) & AI-dashboard compliance tracks.
• Facilitate basic on-site orientations or briefings for client safety teams regarding system operations, fire safety plans, and emergency egress protocols

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Must have - 4 to 10 years of direct experience in fire & life safety auditing, system commissioning, inspection, or technical consultancy environments.
• Strong working knowledge of local and international codes (e.g., NBC 2016,NBCS and relevant NFPA codes).
• Experience interpreting complex engineering drawings, hydraulic calculations, isometric layouts, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting. Proficiency with modern workspace tools, standard reporting software, and viewing tools AutoCAD/Revit/Navis).
• Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.

Preferred (Good To Have) Skills

• Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) ,Chartered Engineer (CEng),Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Fire Inspector (CFI-I / CFI-II), or equivalent national/international credentials.
• Prior inspection or auditing exposure in high-stakes sectors like manufacturing, power/transformers, aviation, or oil and gas facilities.
• Familiarity with or strong interest in modern safety tech, including immersive training concepts (VR) and digital-first audit platforms.
• Practical experience interacting with local statutory bodies or understanding fire NOC (No Objection Certificate) approval workflows in India.
• Familiarity with regulatory approval processes in India and international markets.
• Knowledge of smart fire safety systems integration and digital tools in fire safety engineering.

Experience

• A proven track record of managing and executing field-level fire & life safety inspections across multiple projects with high client satisfaction.
• Demonstrated ability to remain objective, balance technical rigor with tight client timelines, and manage multi-stakeholder communication on active sites.
• Experience organizing and prioritizing field workloads effectively while maintaining high reporting quality.
• Proven ability to balance technical quality, client deadlines and team coordination.
