Founding Engineer - Consumer Social + AI

We’re building Unfollow, a new consumer social product for real-world life.

We believe the next generation of social products won’t just be built around what people post or consume. They’ll understand who people are, what they want to do, who they spend their time with, and help turn intent into real experiences.

That’s the direction we’re building towards.

Our founding team comes from building at the intersection of youth culture, live experiences and community. That gives us direct access to the first users we're building for and a meaningful advantage in testing and distribution.

The product thesis is clear. The product has been deeply specified. We know what we want to build.

Now we’re looking for one exceptional founding engineer to build it with us.

You’ll work directly with the founders and own the technical build from zero to real users.

The immediate goal is simple: ship fast, put the product in the hands of real people, learn from actual behaviour, and iterate relentlessly.

This is not a role where someone hands you tickets and waits for updates. We’re looking for someone who can understand a product deeply, think in systems, make strong technical decisions, challenge assumptions and figure out the fastest way to get something exceptional into users' hands.

You should be comfortable building across:

React Native · TypeScript / Node.js · PostgreSQL · AI & Vision APIs · Mobile Architecture · Backend Systems · Native Integrations · Real-time Systems

You don’t need to know everything already. You do need to be exceptionally good at figuring things out.

We are particularly interested in engineers who are genuinely AI-native in how they build, people using Claude Code, Cursor, agents, automations and modern development workflows to materially compress the time between an idea and working software.

You may be a student or recent graduate who has already built products people use. You may have years of experience shipping consumer applications. Your age, degree and previous job titles matter far less to us than what you can actually build.

We want someone who:

• Has personally shipped real products, apps or systems.
• Can move across mobile, backend, databases and AI integrations without hiding behind role boundaries.
• Thinks in systems, not just screens and features.
• Has strong product judgment and cares deeply about how things feel to a user.
• Moves unusually fast and can show evidence of it.
• Uses AI as genuine engineering leverage, not just autocomplete.
• Takes ownership without needing constant management.
• Gets energised by difficult problems they haven't solved before.

This is an early-stage, zero-to-one build. You’ll have significant influence over the product, architecture, technical decisions and eventually the engineering culture around it.

We’re looking for someone who wants that responsibility.
