Role Description
This is a full-time on-site position located in Chennai for the role of Media Relations Officer. The Media Relations Officer will oversee managing relationships with media outlets, drafting and distributing press releases, and designing strategic communication plans to amplify the organization’s visibility. Responsibilities include coordinating public relations activities, crafting compelling messages for stakeholders, managing events for media coverage, and representing Sevalaya to external audiences.
Job Description:
- Manage media relations and build strong connections with journalists and media houses
- Ensure regular coverage of Sevalaya’s programs, events, and impact stories
- Draft press releases, articles, newsletters, and communication materials
- Coordinate press meets, media visits, and event publicity
- Identify relevant awards and recognition opportunities for the organization
- Prepare and submit award nominations with strong documentation and impact data
- Coordinate with internal teams to collect information, stories, and reports
- Promote achievements, awards, and media coverage across platforms to enhance visibility
Qualifications
- Proven expertise in Press Releases and Media Relations, with a track record of effective press coverage
- Strong Communication and Strategic Communications skills to craft clear, impactful messaging
- Experience in Public Relations, with a focus on fostering positive relationships with stakeholders and media entities
- Ability to manage cross-functional collaborations and public engagements
- Proficiency in time management, attention to detail, and working in deadline-driven environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field preferred
- Familiarity with non-profit or social development organizations is an added advantage
