Linux System Administrator (Entry Level) - HFT & Low-Latency Systems

Job Summary
We're looking for an entry-level Linux System Administrator with strong foundational knowledge of Linux internals, the kernel, and system administration basics. This is a great opportunity to build a career in HFT infrastructure, working alongside senior engineers on mission-critical, low-latency trading environments where performance is measured in microseconds. You'll start by supporting core Linux operations and gradually gain exposure to performance tuning, networking, and trading infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in deploying, configuring, and maintaining Linux servers (Ubuntu, Red Hat, and other distributions)
- Support day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting, and health checks of Linux systems
- Learn and assist with system tuning basics (CPU affinity, kernel parameters, boot configuration) under senior guidance
- Help maintain uptime and reliability of infrastructure through proactive monitoring
- Write and maintain basic automation scripts (Bash, Python) for routine tasks
- Apply OS patches, security updates, and system upgrades
- Support monitoring tool setup and maintenance (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Assist with basic storage administration and data management tasks
- Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps
- Collaborate with senior sysadmins, developers, and quants to understand infrastructure needs
Exposure Areas (Learning & Growth)
- Introduction to HFT architecture and low-latency workflows
- Basic exposure to data centre networking concepts (L2/L3, VLANs)
- Learning ultra-low latency networking fundamentals (10/25/40/100GbE)
- Shadowing senior engineers on network stack tuning (TCP/UDP, multicast)
- Gradual exposure to exchange connectivity and colocation concepts
Required Skills
- Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS)
- Good grasp of Linux internals - processes, memory management, file systems, boot process
- Basic understanding of the Linux kernel and how OS-level tuning affects performance
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, UDP)
- Basic Bash and/or Python scripting ability
- Willingness to learn NVMe storage, NIC hardware, and performance-tuning concepts
- Eagerness to work in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment.
Nice to Have
- Coursework or personal projects involving Linux kernel, performance tuning, or networking
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Exposure to virtualization or containerization (KVM, Docker)
- Interest in financial markets or trading systems
Qualifications
- BE/B.Tech in IT, Computer Science, or related field (freshers welcome)
- Linux certification (RHCSA, LPIC-1) is a plus but not mandatory
- 0–1 years of experience; internship or academic project experience with Linux is valued
