Program Associate – Language Education
IT for Change
Job Description
About IT for Change:
IT for Change (ITfC) is a Bengaluru-based not-for-profit organisation working on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for social change. Established in 2000, ITfC operates across four focus areas: public edtech, gender, internet governance, and development and democracy.
The Public EdTech team at ITfC builds participatory models that strengthen teacher agency, school autonomy, and community participation in partnership with public education systems. Our education programs integrate digital technologies for connecting, creating, and collaborating at school, district, and state levels.
Job Profile:
The Program Associate will work as Faculty or Senior Faculty within the Language team, contributing to program design, resource creation, teacher capacity building, and classroom-level implementation. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and facilitating teacher professional development workshops on multilingual pedagogy, techno-pedagogy, creation of open educational resources and integration of digital technologies in language education, for teachers, teacher educators, and resource persons at district and state levels
- Developing curricular resources in English and/or Kannada: audio stories, lesson plans, classroom modules, interactive digital activities, and assessment tools grounded in inclusive and equitable approaches
- Conducting regular school visits to model, co-teach, and support teachers in integrating new pedagogies and digital resources in their classrooms
- Contributing to the design and delivery of teacher education sessions at B.Ed. colleges and universities, covering language pedagogy, resource creation using digital tools, and broader teacher professional development
- Contributing to building and sustaining subject teacher networks within districts and across states
- Assisting in program documentation, reporting to funders, and preparation of concept notes and proposals for new and ongoing program components
- Participating in research, monitoring, and evaluation activities: needs assessments, baseline and endline studies, classroom observations, data collection, and learning documentation.
Depending on experience and interest, the role may also involve contributing to academic writing and publications, exploring novel digital technologies for language learning, and supporting cross-state program coordination, or contributing to projects across domains.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master's degree in Education, Linguistics, Languages, Development Studies, or a related field with relevant experience in the domain of education
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in teaching (high school or higher), teacher education, curriculum development, or educational program implementation
- Prior experience working in or with government schools, DIETs, or education-focused organisations
Familiarity with language pedagogy frameworks, experience with audio or digital resource creation, storytelling-based pedagogy, or FOSS/OER platforms would be a bonus.
Key Skills and Attributes:
1. Strong competence in English and/or Kannada language teaching. If the candidate is primarily a Kannada language educator, fluency (oral & written) in English is essential.
2. Proficiency in Kannada is mandatory
3. Comfort with using digital tools and technology in educational settings; willingness to learn new platforms and processes
4. Ability to work independently in the field as well as collaboratively within a small, dynamic team
5. Deep understanding of and interest in education and Indian social contexts. Familiarity with the government school system and state educational policies
6. Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups: teachers, DIET faculty, government officials, and partner organisations
Proficiency in Hindi or other Indian languages, experience with data collection or qualitative research methods, and an interest in multilingual education research would be additional strengths.
Note:
- The place of work will be Bengaluru, with occasional travel across Karnataka and India.
- Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and would not be a constraint for the right candidate.
- The role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of language education, technology, and public school reform, with scope for immense professional growth and job satisfaction.
