Position Overview:
The Quality Controller in the publishing industry is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality for printed and digital materials. This position involves overseeing the production process, reviewing content for accuracy and consistency, and ensuring that all products meet company and industry standards before they are published or distributed. The role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the publishing process.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Review & Proofreading:
Conduct thorough proofreading and copy editing of manuscripts, books, articles, or digital content to ensure accuracy, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency.
Verify the formatting of text, tables, figures, and images to ensure they align with company standards and guidelines.
Ensure that all content is appropriate and meets the target audience's expectations.
Quality Assurance in Production:
Review and monitor the printing process for quality control, ensuring the final product is free of defects, errors, and inconsistencies.
Check color accuracy, alignment, and consistency during print production.
Inspect paper quality, bindings, and finishes to ensure they meet production standards.
Compliance and Industry Standards:
Ensure that all content adheres to relevant publishing and copyright laws, such as proper citations, permissions, and licenses for third-party content.
Stay updated with industry best practices and quality standards, applying them to the production process.
Document Review and Verification:
Cross-check proofs, layouts, and final versions of content against original manuscripts and edits to ensure no discrepancies exist.
Validate metadata, including titles, author names, ISBNs, and other identifiers.
Communication with Teams:
Collaborate with editors, designers, production teams, and external vendors to ensure that quality standards are maintained across all stages of production.
Provide feedback and suggest improvements for processes, workflows, and product quality.
Communicate any issues or quality concerns promptly to the relevant departments.
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Publishing, Journalism, English, Communication, or a related field.
Proven experience in a quality control or proofreading role within the publishing industry (minimum of 2-3 years).
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies, errors, and inconsistencies.
Excellent understanding of publishing software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, etc.) and digital publishing tools.
In-depth knowledge of grammar, punctuation, style guides, and publishing standards.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and EPUB formats is a plus.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
