QpiVolta is seeking a Battery Scientist – Sodium-Ion to drive the development of next-generation high-energy, long-life sodium-ion batteries.

This role focuses on cathode innovation (oxide / hybrid systems), electrode engineering, and cell integration (coin to pouch) with a strong emphasis on scaling lab breakthroughs into manufacturable solutions.

You will work at the intersection of materials science, electrochemistry, and process engineering, contributing directly to commercialization.


Key Responsibilities


Electrode & Electrolyte Development

  • Design and optimize high-energy sodium-ion cathodes (oxide / hybrid systems)
  • Develop stable electrode–electrolyte interfaces (SEI/CEI) for long cycle life

Cell Development

  • Optimize:
  • Energy density
  • Cycle life
  • Rate capability

Process Development

  • Lead slurry formulation, coating, drying, and calendaring
  • Ensure reproducibility and scalability

Electrochemical Characterization

  • Conduct:
  • Cycling & rate studies
  • EIS & interfacial analysis
  • Safety & degradation studies

Scale-Up & Tech Transfer

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate lab processes to pilot scale
  • Support process standardization and yield improvement

Collaboration & External Engagement

  • Work with suppliers, partners, and customers
  • Provide technical inputs for joint development programs

IP & Documentation

  • Generate patents and technical reports
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and product strategy


Qualifications

PhD in:

  • Electrochemistry
  • Materials Science
  • Chemical Engineering
  • (or related field)

Hands-on experience in sodium-ion battery development

  • Strong expertise in:
  • Electrode formulation & processing
  • Coin and pouch cell assembly
  • Electrochemical testing & analysis
  • Proven experience in:

Material optimization → cell integration → performance validation


Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience in battery manufacturing or energy storage
  • Deep experience with:

Sodium-based oxide cathodes

  • Anode materials (hard carbon, etc.)
  • Materials characterization:
  • XRD, SEM, XPS, BET, FTIR, TGA-DSC, particle size
  • Experience in:

Electrode–electrolyte interface engineering (SEI/CEI)

  • Electrolyte formulation & stability
  • IP development / tech transfer
