Senior Software Engineer - Embedded GUI

Position Summary

STERIS is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – GUI to develop intuitive, high-performance user interfaces for medical device and healthcare applications. This role focuses on embedded and desktop UI development, with preference for experience using the Crank Storyboard framework or similar GUI technologies such as Qt/QML or GTK. The engineer will collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, compliant, and user-centered solutions aligned with STERIS quality standards.

Duties

• Design, develop, and maintain graphical user interfaces for embedded and desktop applications
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, QA, and product engineering
• Develop UI solutions using Crank Storyboard (preferred), Qt/QML, GTK, or similar frameworks
• Support multithreaded application development on Linux and Windows platforms
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects
• Contribute to architecture, coding standards, and software best practices
• Develop and maintain automated tests and CI/CD pipelines
• Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  
  

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related Engineering discipline
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in development and/or verification
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
  
  

Preferred Experience

• 2+ years experience in embedded systems or application development
• Experience with GUI frameworks including Crank Storyboard (preferred), Qt/QML, or GTK
• Proficiency in C++ and Python for automation or AI applications
• Experience with multithreaded development on Linux or Windows
• Familiarity with communication protocols and hardware interfaces
• Experience with unit testing frameworks such as GTest or CppUTest
• Experience with version control, CI/CD, debugging and code analysis tools
• Medical device or regulated industry experience
  
  

Skills

• Experience with developing on embedded Linux platform.
• Working knowledge of communication and network standards such as X509 Certificates, TCP/IP, HTTPS, TLS is required.
• Experience with YOCTO based BSP development is desirable.
• Knowledge of Internet of cloud connectivity and associated solutions is desired.
