Social Media Manager
For Real
Job Description
Why we exist
There's no Indian fashion marketplace with a real voice. Myntra, Ajio, Tata CLiQ, sit them next to each other and you can't tell who's talking. Sale banner, model in front of a wall, generic copy. A whole category, voiceless.
Meanwhile, there's a generation of Indian shoppers who care more about voice than catalogs. They follow Subko before they follow Starbucks. Diet Sabya before any fashion magazine. Hanumankind before any record label playlist. They've decided who they listen to, and nobody in fashion commerce is on that list.
For Real is being built for that audience. We're not selling discounts. We're building the place where this generation finds clothes they actually want, from brands that they want, with a voice that actually means something. The products are real (₹80,000 Cr off-price market, real brands, real discounts), the opportunity is real, but the audience won't show up for products alone. They'll show up for the voice.
Your job is to amplify that voice; you're the one who decides how it lands in the market.
The social media problem
Building the social media engine for a marketplace is harder than building for a brand. Most SMMs build audiences around a product. You're building an audience around a point of view, the curation, the taste, the worldview, because the products on the platform are constantly rotating.
The thing that stays constant is us. The thing that has to stay coherent is the voice. The thing that has to grow is the audience for that voice.
Specifically:
- Every platform has a different appetite. Instagram is taste. Threads are conversations. LinkedIn is positioning. Reels is rhythm. Same brand, four different jobs.
- We compete for attention against meme pages, creator economies, and brands with 10x our budget. We win on specificity, not spend.
- Every campaign should ladder into the next. Drops, edits, brand spotlights, founder content, one continuous story, not 50 disconnected posts.
- Trends and cultural moments are oxygen. Catching one well is the difference between a post and a phenomenon. Missing one is fine. Forcing one is fatal.
What you'll do
- Own the audience number, not the post count. We're hiring for reach, retention, and resonance; not output volume.
- Set the social calendar across every owned channel. Decide what runs where, when, and why.
- Brief the designers and copywriters on campaigns and moments. They're craftspeople; you're the conductor.
- Build and run the creator and community layer. Find the right people, build the right relationships, and treat them like collaborators, not vendors.
- Catch cultural moments fast. If a trend is breaking on Thursday, we shouldn't be posting about it on Monday.
- Run paid and organic together. Performance social and brand social aren't separate disciplines; you'll work both, with judgment about when to amplify and when to let things breathe.
- Use AI as a velocity tool for trend detection, audience research, variation generation, and multi-platform adaptation. Be opinionated about what AI is good for in this role and what it isn't.
- Watch the numbers ruthlessly. Reach, engagement, save rate, share rate, and attributed clicks. Know what's working before anyone asks.
What we're looking for
- 2 to 3 years owning social end-to-end at a brand under 100 people, or independently running 3+ D2C accounts at an agency. Either path teaches the autonomy this job requires.
- A point of view about voice. You can name brands you admire on social media, articulate why their voice works, and tell us what's wrong with most marketplaces.
- Comfort across organic and paid. Meta Business Suite fluency. Performance instincts without performance-only thinking.
- Strong taste and trend sense. You're early on things, not chasing them. You don't need a brief to recognize a cultural moment.
- Personal social presence helps. We want to see how you talk when nobody's paying you.
- Aggressive AI user. You should already be using AI to move faster, research, monitor trends, test copy variations, plan content, and form opinions on what works.
- High agency, fast decisions, comfort with ambiguity.
